According to a "The Michael Kay Radio Show", rumors (and by that I mean hear-say) surfaced that Roger Clemens and Johnny Damon have tested positive for steroids. From AdamTelle.com: Michael Kay reported on his radio show that two more big-name players, one from the American League and one from the National League, have tested positive for steroids, have appealed the test, and have lost their appeals. The rumor mill is churning out talk that the culprits are Houston's Roger Clemens and Boston's Johnny Damon. Kay says one of the players is expected to be a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer (Clemens), and that the other is completely unexpected (Damon). This news is hitting just a few weeks after the country saw former MSU star and one time Hall of Fame lock Rafael Palmeiro crushed by the national media for similar charges.
Yesterday's post about a mystery man who has tested positive for steroids sparked a few items that warrant mentioning, so here's an update: · A source close to the rumor (mysterious, I know) says the juicer is not on the White Sox. As mentioned yesterday, I certainly hope that's the truth. · Baseball Musings analyzes the clues and educatedly guesses the player is Steve Finley: "I thought Finley was through after the 1998 season. He put together back-to-back years of low OBAs. He was 33, and it's not at all unusual for players to disappear from the majors at that age. But instead, he goes to Arizona, starts getting on base again, and starts hitting home runs like he never did before. He also played a long time with Ken Caminiti." · From the comments section of Musings' post, No Sense Worrying (a Yankees blog) says Sheffield doesn't have an agent. If she's right (and I think she is), this excludes Sheff from the conversation. Again, the original Sports Weekly tidbit: "An American League outfielder on a postseason team tested positive for steroids, according to his AGENT, but the player is appealing the results." · Deadspin has a poll where you can vote on the mystery 'roider. Right now Sheffield is leading the way with 31% of the vote and Damon is second with 20%. Until next time, discuss. Written by dcsportsguy . Everytime I see those stupid looking shorts they I want to know how to change that. Also, who can I send a worthwhile idea that would defitely and the war in Iraq. I hope I can say," thank for listening to me". Comment from bugter2 - 10/31/05 2:42 AM I don't want it to be Johnny Damon. Johnny is the only name on that list that would break my heart if it were to be true. Johnny was my first baseball player I liked.. Johnny was my first Baseball shirt... Johnny was my first baseball card... Let it be the guy from the Angels that did the Pepsi commercial... They beath The Yankees they have to be on roids. Comment from alexgodofbasebal - 10/31/05 2:29 AM The Iron Sheff is a good a bet as any. Comment from monponsett - 10/30/05 7:06 AM Like I said before: Bubba Crosby. He had a home run this year, right? Comment from ynksman1025 - 10/29/05 8:59 PM I cannot say for certain whether Sheffield has an agent. I do know that he personally negotiated his contract by himself, which would make me say that he doesn't if a gun was to my head since that seems to be the primary purpose of a sports agent. Comment from georgecoztanza - 10/29/05 12:17 PM OK, here's my take on the mystery man. Gary Sheffield has long been a suspect as a roids user. He and Raffy's name appeared long ago along with Canseco and I think we just all forgot the initial story. Now, a couple of years later after it's confirmed about Canseco and Raffy, we are feeling like it's big news about Sheffield. I'm telling ya, he's the guy. Lew Comment from lrpatton - 10/29/05 10:13 AM Gary Sheffield's agent is Rufus Williams. Comment from ndisdabest - 10/29/05 9:18 AM I do believe that Sheffield does not have an agent. He has a business agent who handles his legal affairs, but he doesn't have a baseball agent. He has represented himself since he dismissed Scott Boras. I would say that rules him out. I'm glad to hear it's not the White Sox; that would just be too much to handle. So what does that leave? Steve Finley (if we care about him in Will's terms), Vlad, Manny (!), or the Free Agent Caveman. Comment from benyankee23 - 10/28/05 9:52 PM
