Drop Snatch - hat is a snatch balance?

The next exercise in our reactive series is called the Drop Snatch. The Drop Snatch or Snatch Balance is an offshoot of the full Olympic Snatch used in the sport of weightlifting.

The Olympic Snatch is one of the most electrifying movements in sports. So fast that the human eye has trouble following the movement. There are tons of different sites on the net that can give you complete backgrounds into the sport of weightlifting and specifically the Snatch. Many people will argue that the snatch is the most power oriented lift one could do. Again my intentions are not to create good weightlifters, or to wow you with my weightlifting expertise, but to create a more explosive player who is able to perform on the field at a blistering pace.

I love to incorporate the drop snatch into my training programs for a lot of different reasons. First, it is a derivative of the overhead squat which is one of my favorite lifts. What other lift combines upper and lower body suppleness and builds a thick solid torso and powerful legs like the overhead squat?

Second, balance is a must when performing the overhead squat. It sure beats standing on a Swiss ball for 45 minutes at a time. After all, if we play on solid ground, we might want to practice on solid ground.
